What Do Satanists Really Believe?

Satanic Codes of Conduct
Anton Szandor LaVey

Always ask the big question. "Why?" Never assume someone else to be correct without investigating it yourself. One false belief can be a downfall.

Never let any man or woman think they bested you. When someone talks to you, or interacts with you, show them your dominance. Never let anyone challenge you intellectually without letting them leave with a headful of new knowledge to contemplate.

Live your life to the fullest of your own gratification. You only answer to yourself, and no one else.

Humans have invented hundreds of Gods. If you need one, pick one that suits your particular needs and orbits best, not the one that is currently the most popular.

Do not mock the spirits. It is hypocritical to summon a spirit for help, then form a protective barrier against that same spirit you summoned!

You may have sex with anyone you want, so long as they are adult consensual partners. A child or animal cannot express its desire to not have sex, neither can a drunk girl. These types of activities are violation of their will, and very un-Satanic.

White magic and black magic were invented with the sole purpose of controlling the mind of the practitioner. To create boundaries that don't exist between the realm of knowledge and the realm of crude matter. Indeed, once these beliefs become subconsciously embedded, they can become a powerful vehicle for control, so powerful in fact that a magician performing a ritual will curse himself for his own subconscious belief!

Satanic rituals do not actually call forth demons, (in the literal sense). These type of rituals are only done by those who are in fear of the very things they are trying to summon.

 The Nine Satanic Statements

from The Satanic Bible, ©1969
by Anton Szandor LaVey

1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!

2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!

3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit!

4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!

5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!

6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!

7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!

8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!

9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years!

The Nine Satanic Sins
by Anton Szandor LaVey ©1987
1. Stupidity — The top of the list for Satanic Sins. The Cardinal Sin of Satanism. It’s too bad that stupidity isn’t painful. Ignorance is one thing, but our society thrives increasingly on stupidity. It depends on people going along with whatever they are told. The media promotes a cultivated stupidity as a posture that is not only acceptable but laudable. Satanists must learn to see through the tricks and cannot afford to be stupid.

2. Pretentiousness — Empty posturing can be most irritating and isn’t applying the cardinal rules of Lesser Magic. On equal footing with stupidity for what keeps the money in circulation these days. Everyone’s made to feel like a big shot, whether they can come up with the goods or not.

3. Solipsism — Can be very dangerous for Satanists. Projecting your reactions, responses and sensibilities onto someone who is probably far less attuned than you are. It is the mistake of expecting people to give you the same consideration, courtesy and respect that you naturally give them. They won’t. Instead, Satanists must strive to apply the dictum of “Do unto others as they do unto you.” It’s work for most of us and requires constant vigilance lest you slip into a comfortable illusion of everyone being like you. As has been said, certain utopias would be ideal in a nation of philosophers, but unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, from a Machiavellian standpoint) we are far from that point.

4. Self-deceit — It’s in the “Nine Satanic Statements” but deserves to be repeated here. Another cardinal sin. We must not pay homage to any of the sacred cows presented to us, including the roles we are expected to play ourselves. The only time self-deceit should be entered into is when it’s fun, and with awareness. But then, it’s not self-deceit!

5. Herd Conformity — That’s obvious from a Satanic stance. It’s all right to conform to a person’s wishes, if it ultimately benefits you. But only fools follow along with the herd, letting an impersonal entity dictate to you. The key is to choose a master wisely instead of being enslaved by the whims of the many.

6. Lack of Perspective — Again, this one can lead to a lot of pain for a Satanist. You must never lose sight of who and what you are, and what a threat you can be, by your very existence. We are making history right now, every day. Always keep the wider historical and social picture in mind. That is an important key to both Lesser and Greater Magic. See the patterns and fit things together as you want the pieces to fall into place. Do not be swayed by herd constraints—know that you are working on another level entirely from the rest of the world.

7. Forgetfulness of Past Orthodoxies — Be aware that this is one of the keys to brainwashing people into accepting something new and different, when in reality it’s something that was once widely accepted but is now presented in a new package. We are expected to rave about the genius of the creator and forget the original. This makes for a disposable society.

8. Counterproductive Pride — That first word is important. Pride is great up to the point you begin to throw out the baby with the bathwater. The rule of Satanism is: if it works for you, great. When it stops working for you, when you’ve painted yourself into a corner and the only way out is to say, I’m sorry, I made a mistake, I wish we could compromise somehow, then do it.

9. Lack of Aesthetics — This is the physical application of the Balance Factor. Aesthetics is important in Lesser Magic and should be cultivated. It is obvious that no one can collect any money off classical standards of beauty and form most of the time so they are discouraged in a consumer society, but an eye for beauty, for balance, is an essential Satanic tool and must be applied for greatest magical effectiveness. It’s not what’s supposed to be pleasing—it’s what is. Aesthetics is a personal thing, reflective of one’s own nature, but there are universally pleasing and harmonious configurations that should not be denied.

  1. I understand the fact that Satanism is mainly about doing what is pleasing to one's self, but what if someone finds it pleasing to murder children? Or something else that is socially unacceptable? Would it still be okay from a Satanist standpoint?

    1. Harming children is against the rules. And If someone had urges, they should seek help from a therapist, why the hell would child murder be okay from satanist standpoint???

    2. Although being a LaVeyan Satanist means you are supposed to gratify yourself, it doesn't mean that you should do immoral things like killing children or animals. In fact, if you have really read up on it, many true Satanists are opposed to child/animal sacrifice. Many Satanists are about preserving life, and that children and animals are a vital part of that. It's not okay for anyone to kill in the name of religion, and Satanists are no exception.

    3. It doesn't really say anything about justifying murder nor does it do the opposite.
I'm guessing (and this is my interpretation) that this fits into the category of "vengeance". That's a loose word in and of itself and it probably means, to punish the one who has done wrong instead of forgiving them and letting them go.
In other words, judge them with justice etc.

  2. Some people are stupid to call someone something before they know what it is.

  3. Obviously Satanists ignore the fact that the Bible states there is a war against God and Satan. The Bible also says that God has already won and Satan lost, but Satan can still do things on earth to harass situations.

    2. You seem to assume that Satanists believe the bible is the truth, and that Satan is the enemy. I do not.

  4. After reading this I see that a lot of these philosophies are just a flip side to their Christian counterparts... not necessarily a negative to a positive because I don't think the world is that black and white but more a "Do for self!" instead of "Do for others". And lets face it Christians – 90% of yall are in it for number 1 anyway. I think these "Satanic" ideals are pretty relatable to most of us unfortunately they are shunned in this setting because they are accompanied by a bunch of pagan iconography.

  6. I my self believe that these will help most people in the future at first I thought that Satanism was about killing people and dark things but now I see that its basicly saying that one should not worship a god that every body else is worshiping cuz if it doesn't fit you find another god that will fit your needs and wants

  7. This is really interesting actually I learned a lot but please do not say that Paganism gives Satanism a bad name. Paganism is about not yourself, or others, but about everyTHING. So please, don't talk down to a religion you don't know about just because you learned about a new one.

  8. Does anyone really believe in this? Just as silly as any other religion.

    1. Yes, some of us really do. It is the perfect way of thinking for someone who is intellectually based - do what is best for you, not what is best in the eye of society.

    2. Well personally I'm for Christianity, but thou shall love thy neighbor so i really don't care what religion anyone believes in as long as their not hurting people, only hardcore Catholics believe in that shunning crap, that's why I'm for plain Christianity not the catholic church.

    2. We all need to accept anyone's religions, even if we think it's 'silly' or 'filthy'-we can't force eachother to understand our beliefs and it doesn't benefit us to try any harder.
You are hardly going to gain anything by enforcing it, and you won't loose anything in letting it slide. Neither God nor Satan, whomever you believe in, would care for you to act in this way- its futile every way you look at it and there's so much better in life.
Great reference by the way- love that movie :D

    3. Satan is our one true god God has truely forsaken me so i turned to satan and i feel great about life now Satan hasn't lost truely god has in my eyes but believe what you believe

  11. Basically the people the majority of people commenting on this are pissed on christians and agnostic people

I am trying to look at this from a objective point of view and it seems like Satanism has left some details out, but it doesn't seem that bad. So if anyone reading this ever meets a Satanist, don't judge them on stereotypes. It seems to me that satanism is based on realism and treating people the way they deserve.
    (I am not a satanist)

  12. I disagree, but it's nice to learn about other people's beliefs to be informed about what to expect or how they feel, etc. I will agree to disagree! :)

  13. The God of the Bible is the only God. There are no others to find. Sounds to me like Satanism is the religion of not having to answer to a greater authority. Choosing to worship Satan does not change the fact that you WILL have to answer for your actions. God created you therefore He gets to make the rules. You may not like them but at least you have been given a lifetime of chances to come to know him and follow Him before that final judgment happens. If you come to know and understand the book of Daniel in the Bible you will understand better!

    God Bless!

    4. christians, are not bad. neither are satanists . no one religion is better , forcing religion on any one is morally incorrect . everyone should read and learn about all controversial religions , learn and grow . im 16 in high school and plan to study religion forever because enlightenment to me is knowing the whole truth for myself . i myself feel myself leaning towards satanism because it fits my aesthetic and moral beliefs on a spiritual level . i used to think i was bhuddist , but while meditating i realized something . "i am myself , not what any deity or creator has made me , i am a thinking being" "i am something more than a body to follow the sheep , i am a wolf to run alone to discover and conquer, to learn ."

  14. How would you say this ties into The Illuminati who claim to be Satanists? It seems this religiin would benefit the world because (on assumption) it embraces the power of the mind, but isnt that on the agenda of the New World Order?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Illuminati don't claim to be Satanist.. they are Luciferians and don't really worship any beings. Christians mistakenly affiliate the symbols used with Satan, They believe in INTELLIGENCE and WISDOM, and they consider themselves to be magi or wise men, and believe they deserve to run the world as less intelligent people are worthless. se this about Luciferianism:

  15. But then is the law system of the world seen as satanic? coz its taking vengeance basically against someone who has stolen from you, committed fraud, etc.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Civil Laws are not designed to seek vengeance but to provide justice, i.e., to place the injured party back into the position they were before they were wronged. -V

  16. Myself, I am to have been labeled a simple age of 14; yet to know that Christianity is allowing torture, rape, as well as murder to women and children, I'm solely an athiest, but from my perspective satanists aren't bad, they just want freedom and a good life, they know that they won't live forever, satanists oppose violence to an undeserving being as well as accepting that we aren't the top living beings as we yet again are mortal, and if there is a war going on... Then I must oppose Christianity
