I take most of the bible to be contextual and not absolute. How can you justify that a 'God' could allow sin to exist. He is omnipotent and hence can painlessly remove the blueprint of sin from existence, without destroying everything in it. And also how can you reconcile the fact that humanity was created by an 'overly posessive, jealous and wrathful entity' - the God of the old testament. It almost feels like God as an ego, a personality? I'm not condemning the bible. I'm trying to understand it and clear my doubts. Why is christian philosophy so limited and regressive? <br />When I read the bible, I get the feeling that everything is based on fear-conditioning, that God will either smite me or I will go to hell(for eternity) for failure to conform to a certain moral-code; without helping me understand the 'why' of everything. I feel if I understood the reasoning behind all ethical-commands, I would be more likely to comply. Shouldn't I be good for goodness' sake and love for love's sake and not for the fear of a future hell? Should I read between the lines of every verse of the bible and understand everything in allegory? I've read the book of Thomas which never made it into bible liturgy and the philosophy/thought present in that book is a lot more evolved than any other in the bible. It simply makes sense and I would feel like living up to that state of purity, without fear conditioning. I'm not sure if it's a Gnostic treatise or was originally meant for the Holy Bible itself. So please help me reconcile to this absence of reasoning and lack of spiritual insight that I find in the bible. (I'm not trying to offend or be sarcastic. I would really like to understand the Christ I worship.)Mystikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04102285128711164636noreply@blogger.com
